Our October meeting was a fascinating presentation by Rob Stone on ‘Alternative Australia’, choosing wines that were atypical of the generality of the wines found in the supermarkets and larger Wine merchants.
For many of us it was an enlightening experience and went a long way to remove a lot of the prejudices that surround mass market Australian Wines which tend to be high in alcohol and somewhat one dimensional.
Rob introduced a range of wines that featured either grapes that are not widely associated with Australia, or which were unusual in their expression of the more common varieties. Particularly well received were the Chapel Hill Verdelho and the Antique Fortified Muscat from Yalumba Wines.
A delicious selection of food was also provided by Rob and Lindsey, along with some interesting photos of their time in Australia and a continuing stream of alternative facts about Australia which kept everyone entertained.
