For our January Meeting we had an evening looking at Food and Wine Matching from different perspective presented by Tricia Smith. Generally we try specific wines with specific foods but this evening was more about why certain wines, or styles of wine, go well with certain foods – and most important, your personal taste.
In order to look at how the structure, flavour and texture of wine affect the match with different foods members were subjected to sucking lemons, eating salt, sugar and butter to see how the effect on the wine. There were also lots of much more pleasant things to try and experiment with, the aim of the evening being to build a personal profile of food and wine style matches that suit your palate.
