We were delighted to have John Freeland from C A Rookes Wine Merchants with us for our April 2015 meeting on Wines from South Africa. John has a wealth of knowledge and wonderful stories which always make for an entertaining evening. The wines also lived up to expectations.
John presented a range of wines from Simonsvlei based at Suider Paarl in the Western Cape along with a couple from Seven Springs Vineyard in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, Hermanus.
All the wines were interesting with a couple of stars, particularly given the very reasonable prices. Among the whites the Simonsvlei Premier Selection Chenin was very popular with the Seven Springs Pinot Noir and the Simonsvlei Shiraz vying for the honours amongst the reds.
